What is Better French?
Better French takes real French news from 40+ trusted sources, summarizes it clearly, and lets you read in French or English. Tap any word for an instant translation with context, cultural notes, and pronunciation. Then test what you learned with interactive games like Quiz Me, VocaMatch, and Breakdown.
Is Better French free?
Yes. Better French is free to use every day. You can read articles, tap words for translations, play games, and track your streak. Free users have daily limits on some features. Better French Pro removes all limits for unlimited access.
What is the 15-day free Pro access?
When you create an account, you get 15 days of full Pro access for free. No credit card needed. This lets you explore everything Better French has to offer. After 15 days, you can continue using the free plan or subscribe to Pro.
What languages are supported?
Articles are available in French and English. Translations and explanations are available in English, French, German, and Spanish. You can change your preferred language anytime in Settings.
Can I use Better French on the web?
Yes. Better French is available on the web at betterfrench.fr and as an iOS app. Your account, progress, bookmarks, and vocabulary sync across both. Use whichever works best for you.
Features
How does tap-to-translate work?
While reading any article in French, simply tap on a word. You'll see an instant translation along with cultural notes, example sentences, and pronunciation. This feature is called Better French Context.
What games are available?
Better French includes three games to help you practice. Quiz Me tests your comprehension with 3-question quizzes on every article. VocaMatch challenges you to match French words with their meanings at three difficulty levels. Breakdown lets you build real French sentences word by word.
Can I hear how words are pronounced?
Yes. Audioplay lets you hear the pronunciation of any word you tap. Listen and practice saying it right. This works even with your phone on silent mode.
How does the daily streak work?
Any activity counts toward your daily streak: reading an article, tapping a word, or playing a game. Your streak is tracked on a calendar so you can see your learning history and stay consistent.
Subscription
What does Better French Pro include?
Pro gives you unlimited access to all features: unlimited word translations, unlimited games, unlimited English reading, and unlimited Audioplay. Free users enjoy the same features with daily limits.
How much does Pro cost?
Better French Pro is available as a monthly subscription (€4.99/month) or yearly subscription (€39.99/year). Prices may vary by country.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel anytime through your device settings. On iPhone: go to Settings, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, find Better French, and tap Cancel Subscription. Your Pro access continues until the end of your current billing period.
Can I get a refund?
Subscriptions purchased through the App Store are managed by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID. For any billing questions, you can also reach out to us at hello@betterfrench.fr.
What happens to my subscription if I delete my account?
Deleting your account removes your data from Better French, but it does not cancel your Apple subscription. To avoid being charged, cancel your subscription in your iPhone Settings before deleting your account.
Account
How do I delete my account?
Open the app, go to Profile, scroll down and tap "Delete Account." This permanently deletes your account and all associated data. You can also request account deletion by emailing hello@betterfrench.fr.
What if I forget my password?
Better French uses a verification code instead of passwords. Tap "Sign in with email," enter your email address, and you'll receive a code to sign in. If you signed up with Apple or Google, simply use the same sign-in method.
Can I use Better French on multiple devices?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on the iOS app and at betterfrench.fr. Your progress, bookmarks, and vocabulary sync automatically across both.
Troubleshooting
The app is not loading articles
Check your internet connection and try again. If the issue continues, close the app completely and reopen it. Articles are updated daily and require an active connection to load new content.
Audio is not playing
Better French audio works even in silent mode. If you still can't hear anything, check that your device volume is turned up and that no Bluetooth devices are connected. Try closing and reopening the app.
I subscribed but still see daily limits
Try closing the app completely and reopening it. If that doesn't work, go to Profile and check your subscription status. If the issue persists, email us at hello@betterfrench.fr and we'll sort it out.
